A role

Everything has a purpose, even machines. Clocks tell the time and trains take you places. They do what they're meant to do. Maybe that's why broken machines make me so sad. They can't do what they're meant to do. Maybe it's the same with people. If you lose your purpose, it's like you're broken.

Hugo Cabret: Hugo (2011)

Hugo, for me, is just like another movie. It has a good message but it was not strong enough. However the dialogue between Hugo and Isabella really caught my attention. It is about having purpose in life. Who we are and why we are here, earth. As Hugo said, even machines have its own purpose in life, wouldnt it be possible for human not having one? It is a question for us to ponder. If life is only about living, what is next? Where will be our next destination?

As muslims, we believe that this life is only temporary (a stop over), the eternal life is awaiting in the hereafter. Yet, we still need to find a role to place ourselves in this world. Either we are doctors, engineers, musicians, architects, or housewives. Some of us are still in searching for identity. A role to play.

I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, They always come with the exact amount they need, you know. So I figured if the entire world was one big machine... I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.
